13 Rue del Percebe

(From the first page of the series)

Making 13 Rúe del Percebe, creating it, cost two or three times more than an ordinary page. In an ordinary page there were three or four gags, and in 13 Rúe del Percebe there were 14 or 15, always stuck in the same place, always stuck in that niche, you couldn’t make them run through the mountains or the countryside. When you were a hundred pages in, you’d say “Fuck, what’s going to come out now”, when you were 300 pages in, it was “Holy shit”, and when you were 500 pages in, it was “Fuck, what am I going to put here now?” But it came out, it came out, and it would have kept coming out.

Francisco Ibáñez, interviewed in U, el hijo de Urich #8 (1998)
