Terry And The Pirates

Milton Caniff
Terry And The Pirates
Chicago Tribune-New York News Syndicate, 1946

Contrary to his contemporaries Alex Raymond and Harold Foster, Caniff was less influenced by classic illustrators and more by cinematic techniques. He paced his plots like the adventure serials which ran in weekly episodes in film theaters, much like TV episodes do today. It gave his impressionistic brushwork a more vivid and dynamic look.
