Moebius
Venise céleste (1984)
Published by Aedena
It is often from the [Italian] Peninsula that the desire to carry out projects, to organise major monographic exhibitions in venues each more superb than the last, comes and goes. For us, these visits were like a pilgrimage, since it was in Italy, in Venice, that we met for the first time in 1984, three years before we got together and started a family.
At the time, Jean had settled in Venice, on the outskirts of Los Angeles, where he conceived the story of ‘Venise céleste.’ In February, in the snow, he had come to open an exhibition in the City of the Doges [Venice, Italy] entitled ‘Jean Gir: il nuovo Mœbius,’ and he had drawn for me, without thinking about it, a story about a prince and a little fairy… a story that united us until his last breath.
