Better known for his brilliant work in the series Diabolik, the great Italian comic artist Sergio Zaniboni (1937-2017) began working in 1972 for the children’s magazine Il Giornalino, where he published several stories of Lieutenant Marlo (Tenente Marlo), written by Claudio Nizzi. According to publisher Allagalla, which released a compilation in 2020, “all the elements that make Zaniboni’s style unique are recognisable here: the use of the wide-angle lens alternating with the telephoto lens, the backdrops to lighten long fields, the zoom on details that are only apparently secondary…”.
